Foundation Heaven: Rimmel Radiance BB Cream Review

As we get into the warmer months, I have started to notice my skin getting a bit more temperamental with me. My winter foundation (Covergirl Outlast Stay Fabulous) all of a sudden hasn't been sitting right on my skin, lasting nearly as long as it normally would, and I have started to get tiny little breakouts around my mouth and forehead. For me, this is not a normal occurrence. My breakouts are almost always only on my cheeks and jawline. So, with the impression that my foundation just hasn't been working anymore, I set out to find a new, lighter spring and summer solution. Let me tell you, the Rimmel Radiance BB Cream has quickly become a new favorite.

I happened to stumble upon this in Meijer one day, and it was the only one left on the shelf. It felt like it was meant to be, considering it was also in my shade, and did I mention that it was only $6.47? It was half the price of what I would normally pay for my foundations, so I scooped it up and took it home to put it to the test. It's been about two months since I first started using this, and it has quickly become the perfect little gem for my makeup bag.

Let's first talk about the consistency. I was concerned the first time I went to use it, because of how thick the product seems to be. In the two months I have been using it, however, I have found that it blends out wonderfully. The amount on my hand in the image above is probably twice the amount of what I actually use on my face. A little will go a long way, and if you use more than half of that little blob, I do find it can go quite cakey. Now, as thick as the product seems, once you blend it out on the skin it is silky, and feels extremely moisturizing and refreshing.

(Sorry for the black and white photo. I wanted to show what I use, but it is currently being cleaned)

As for the application, I started off trying to use my e.l.f small stipple brush, which worked for the first two times, but went south from there. I highly recommend using this product with a damp sponge. The one I am currently using is from Real Techniques, and works wonders with this BB cream. I take a small amount of the product on the flat side of the sponge and start dabbing that on my cheeks near my nose and eyes, and then blend it out. I use the flat side to bled as much as possible on my most of my face, and then continue blending with the side of the sponge and tapered side near my nose and eyes. I do tend to work on one side of my face at a time, and then work down my neck.
As I said before, this blends out beautifully. I find that the damp sponge helps press the BB cream into my skin and give a really flawless application without any streaks of patchiness.

When it comes to the coverage, it is what I would expect from a BB cream. It seems to be light coverage, medium coverage if you build it up a bit. Again, be careful when building it up and only do it where it is necessary for you. I do find that if I'm not careful, it gets quite cakey. I prefer to do a thin layer to even out my skin tone, and then take a tiny bit where my redness and spots show through. I have concealer for a reason, and I use that for any imperfections that I still want to cover afterward.

As for the finish, it is very dewy on my skin, and I find that after I let it sit on my skin for about 10 minutes, it is still quite tacky feeling. I absolutely have to set this with a powder to cut down on the shine and that sticky feeling. Pressed powders don't seem to lay well on top of this for some reason, but I do love the way my Loreal True Match Naturale Powder Foundation buffs in on top of this. I usually let that sit on my skin for another 10 minutes, and then use my e.l.f  HD Finishing powder just in my T-zone where I tend to get oily.

The Rimmel Radiance BB Cream usually will last on my combination skin 4-5 hours before it starts breaking up around my nose and forehead. With a touch up here and there I can stretch the wear to 8 hours before I can't keep up with it anymore. Bonus
: This foundation also has SPF 20 in it, so I don't feel so bad when I forget my usual sunscreen on busy mornings.

Overall, this BB cream gets a huge thumbs up from me, and I will continue to use it through the summer unless I see any changes. I am interested in trying the regular and matte versions that Rimmel has as well, so let me know if you have tried them and what your thoughts are.
xoxo Ashley
